Boeing’s new aircraft lavatory cleans itself and is perfect even for germophobes

Boeing has created an airplane toilet that cleans itself. This airliner restroom uses sensor technology and ultraviolet light, which is said to kill 99.99 percent germs in three seconds.

Boeing’s restroom prototype, still under development, has latched doors that don’t need to be touched by hand. Faucets, dispensers, trash cans, toilet lid and toilet seat, hand dryer – all this also does not need to be touched by hands, because all this can be controlled using sensors. Ventilation system in the floor sucks out solid particles.

When a passenger leaves the aircraft restroom, an ultraviolet light turns on, which cleans the room from germs. Similar UV lamps are also used in medical offices for sterilization systems. This type of lighting is harmful to living cells and destroys microbes in a matter of seconds. Boeing assures that a special security system prevents activation of the light in the presence of people in the toilet. The toilet lid moves automatically so that the entire toilet is cleaned during sterilization.

Boeing restroom prototype to be shown at Aircraft Interiors Expo in Hamburg in April.
